Mean Reds

Red is one of my favourite colours and I think people underestimate how versatile it is for use in the home. There are so many ways to go about it and so many 'moods' and themes that can be created - luxury, oriental, bold, contemporary, sensual, country cottage... the list goes on. Many relegate the colour to soft furnishings or as an accent on a feature wall, and whilst this is more than enough for some rooms, I think its important to know that less is not always more, and more can be complimented in so many ways. Below I have added images of some of my favourite ways that red has been used in different settings and some ideas which may have been filtered out of conventional designs. Furniture - a form of art in some cases! Innovative and unusual, simple and traditional. This is also where accessories can be placed or paint and wallpaper samples used as linings to really make it pop.

Soft Furnishings:

Colour Schemes: Contrasts that compliment. Some, such as green and red or red and pink scream offence but using the right shade and right amount of both makes it a whole new ball game. Some examples:

Browns and Creams - chocolate, soft suede, eggshell

Purples - aubergine, plum

Warm oranges and pinks - mango, tangerine, magneta

Turquoise - provides a Mediterranean colour scheme

Pale greens - fern, light olive

And perhaps the most brave, monochromatic:

Artworks:

Accessories:

I hope this leaves you with a passion for rouge and inspiRED to channel it!
